Chat the Zwift Episode 1: A Conversation with Maxime Petré, President of RCBT
The first episode of “Chat the Zwift” immerses listeners in the fascinating world of triathlon. Hosted by Camilo, owner of Cyclovia, a high-performance bike shop in Brussels, this episode features Maxime Petré, president of the Royal Club de Triathlon de Bruxelles (RCBT), and Olivier Phillipe, Cyclovia ambassador and RCBT member. Together, they share their experiences and passion for triathlon.
The Passion for Triathlon
Maxime Petré, a triathlete for over 18 years, discovered triathlon in his teenage years, and the sport has become an integral part of his life. He emphasizes the importance of enjoying every training session, stating that “pleasure is fundamental in what I do.” The community and inclusiveness within RCBT allow athletes of all levels to train together, creating an environment where everyone can progress at their own pace.
Organization and Structure
Triathlon requires strong organization and a structured approach. Maxime explains that “triathlon demands a bit of organization and structure, even in your weekly schedule if you want to train in three disciplines.” This discipline and structure are valuable skills that also transfer to other areas of life, helping to manage time and priorities effectively.
Equipment Advice
Maxime also shares his advice on equipment, stressing the importance of not rushing to buy the best gear right away. He recommends starting with basic equipment and gradually investing based on your needs and experience. Camilo adds, “It’s essential not to get carried away by the desire to buy the best bike from the start, but to focus on the experience and the enjoyment.” Speaking of bikes, Maxime reveals that his favorite bike is a Cervélo P3, a model he has been using for over 15 years. “I’m lucky to have an old Cervélo P3—it’s over 15 years old, but still performs great. It’s a bike that brings me a lot of joy.”
The Evolution of Triathlon
Triathlon and the sports community in Brussels are constantly evolving. Maxime notes a growing interest in long-distance and ultra-endurance events, observing that “people are starting to get into ultra-distance, which is quite new and impressive.” This trend reflects a growing desire to push personal limits and explore new experiences.
Memorable Moments
The most memorable moments in triathlon are often shared with friends and teammates. Maxime recalls his participation in the Ironman in Nice, where he had unforgettable experiences. “The first time I participated, I was less than two minutes from the time cut-off to reach the summit, and it was an incredible moment.” These powerful experiences, often shared with friends and teammates, make each race unique and memorable.
Whether you’re an experienced triathlete or a beginner, there’s always something to learn and enjoy in every race and training session. Interested in getting into triathlon? Find all the information and news about RCBT at https://rcbt.brussels/.
